Cavities
Causes of tooth decay:
1. The poor oral hygiene.
2. The diet: sugar consumption is an important source of acid production that destroys the tooth and causes a cavity.
3. Alcohol, smoking and certain medications.
4. The salivary flow.
5. The immune system.
“Prevention is better than cure”
Proper treatment of tooth decay can be:
1. Remineralization of affected areas with re-mineralizing toothpaste.
2. Fluoride use: fluoride helps make teeth more resistant to tooth decay.
3. Filling options: Filling can be a composite resin (same color of the tooth) or an amalgam (known as the gray filling).
