Root canal treatment
Tooth decay can develop and reach the pulp known as the nerve of the tooth; it is often accompanied by severe pain.
Other causes can irritate or damage the tooth pulp like a trauma or a crack.
This irritation may be reversible (reversible pulpitis): cold sensitivity is for a short time; consult the dentist to save the tooth, if possible, without a root canal.
If the tooth needs a root canal (irreversible pulpitis), the pain can be spontaneous, cold sensitivity stays longer and the tooth may be sensitive to hot.
The alternative to root canal treatment is to extract the tooth.
Do not be afraid of the root canal treatment. New technologies help us, the root canal is now easy to do, without pain and with a high success rate.
Root canal treatment is to remove the pulp of the tooth and replace it with a shutter product. Most teeth with a root canal treatment have a risk of fracture; crowns are often recommended to protect these teeth.
